RBPlat hosted Safety Days from 12-14 November 2018 at their JV operations in the Rustenburg area in North West Province. The exco team together with other stakeholders attended the events in line with the request from the Minerals Council of South Africa. The CEO together with all other guest speakers conveyed a message supporting the statement that every mine worker must return from work unharmed every day. All stakeholders reinforced their commitment to safety and health through interaction with employees, unions and all other parties.

During the morning sessions at the different sites, activities started with a mass meeting where guest speakers expressed their concerns about the current health and safety status at RBPlat.  As part of the morning activities posters were displayed, safety pledges were signed by all employees, safety and health related videos were screened in the change houses and at the lamps rooms at the different sites. Refreshments were also provided to employees.

During the afternoon sessions activities continued with health promotions related to TB Screening, blood sugar (HGT), blood pressure, as well as Body Mass Index (BMI) screening was also provided. Incentives were used to encourage employees to regularly check their health status in all areas.

All stakeholders recognized that safety and health in the workplace is a joint effort and the employer as well as employees committed themselves to the principle of Zero Harm. It was also re-emphasised that a more vigorous approach is needed towards non-compliance and risk behaviour. Everybody present was requested to work extremely safely and to ensure compliance to applicable mine standards and procedures during the remaining period of the year.
