Interviews with industry leaders

Ensuring that all employees return home safely and unharmed at the end of every day is our industry’s top priority.

In these videos, our leaders in the industry share their messages about safety and health.

AUGUST 17

What this day is about

For the last 20 years, the mining industry has worked hard at improving its safety performance. We saw an 88% improvement in fatality rates in the 20 years up until 2017. That this improving trend has been reversing since last year is a matter of deep concern to the industry and to the Minerals Council South Africa.

The National Day of Safety & Health in Mining 2018, launched on 17 August 2018, will be followed – over a period of one month – by a Day of Safety & Health in Mining at all member companies. This initiative demonstrates the industry’s recommitment to the goal of Zero Harm. Together with employees and unions, and with the support and guidance of the DMR, we can reverse this trend, and achieve Zero Harm.
